This week we had a very interesting experience. We taught a young man, we’ll call him Phillip, who is about 21 years old. We taught him about the Law of Chastity – that physical intimacy between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that there are immense blessings to those who use the procreative power in the way that God has established. We also taught about the consequences of breaking the Law of Chastity and the serious nature of the law. As we taught, it was as if a light turned on in his head. He looked off to the side and thought for a bit, then said, “I had no idea this was so serious. But it’s so true. If only I had known what I know now, I would never have made so many mistakes”. We explained that, through Christ’s Atonement and obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his past sins can be completely wiped away. The Spirit was so strong in the lesson, and his desire to turn his life around was manifest. He said he is excited to be baptized and turn his life around, but that he needs to fix some things in his life first. We happily accepted and let him know that we would be by his side every step of the way. There’s really nothing more gratifying than seeing that light turn on in the minds of our investigator’s as we teach the truth. They realize that they could have avoided so much pain in their past through obedience to Christ’s Gospel. But their remorse is always coupled with a burning hope and desire to follow Christ’s example so that they can start anew and stop making the same mistakes. The Gospel is, in all ways, life-changing.
We baptized a young 12 year-old boy this weekend – the son of a mother who is reactivating in the church. He was fully prepared when we found him. His baptism was so special, and everybody from the ward became excited about baptizing more. Things are looking up.
